In Evansville, Indiana, police arrested the mother of a 1-year old baby and the mother’s boyfriend after they discovered a video of the little girl playing with a 40-caliber handgun.
Michael Barnes, 19, was arrested on Thursday night after selling a handgun to an undercover officer. At the time of the arrest, Barnes had an active warrant for armed robbery. Police searched his phone at the time of the arrest and found two videos, which showed the infant playing with the handgun that appeared to be the one being sold to the undercover cop. In the video, voices can be heard telling the child to say “pow” and “bang” on multiple occasions, and she can also be seen placing the muzzle of the gun in her mouth.
Police said that Barnes’ girlfriend, Toni Wilson, 22, was present while Barnes filmed the baby playing with the gun. Police said that when they questioned the woman on Friday, she claimed the weapon shown in the video was a pellet gun.
Barnes is not the dad of the 1-year old child filmed in the video, but he and Wilson have two 1-month old twins together. All three children were placed in emergency care by police and Barnes and Wilson were arrested and both faced charges of child neglect, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and allowing a child to possess a firearm. Barnes is also facing charges of resisting arrest with a weapon, carrying a handgun without a permit and carrying a handgun without a permit within 500ft of a school.
