A Texas prison bus carrying 15 people, including 12 inmates and 3 corrections officers, veered onto railroad tracks and was hit by a train today on Wednesday morning around 7:30 a.m local time.
At least 10 people, 8 prisoners and 2 corrections officers, were killed when the bus skidded off an icy highway overpass in Texas, slid down an embankment and collided with a passing train. The bus was traveling from Abilene to El Paso on Interstate 20, and the accident took place near the western Texas city of Penwell. 5 patients are being treated at a hospital in the city of Odessa, about 12 miles away, but it is unconfirmed if more are expected or what are the conditions of the patients being treated.
The train headed from California to Arkansas was carrying cargo when it was hit, and there were a conductor and an engineer on board the freight train, but nobody got hurt.
