The Center for Security Policy released a poll Tuesday with results that show the number of American Muslims who agree that the U.S. should be governed by Shariah law and violence is a legitimate response to those who insult Islam.
A full majority of 51% agreed that “Muslims in America should have the choice of being governed according to shariah,” however 45% of those polled believe that it’s up to the individual Muslim to define Shariah.
When asked “if shariah conflicts with the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights,” 43% voted that the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights should be considered supreme, while 33% voted for the supremacy of Shariah Law
The 600 Muslims polled were also asked if they believe whether “violence against those that insult the prophet Muhammad, the Qur’an, or Islamic faith is sometimes acceptable.” 29% in total agreed (16% strongly, 13% somewhat), while 61% in total disagreed (14% somewhat, 47% strongly).
One-fourth of those polled agreed that “violence against Americans here in the United States can be justified as part of the global jihad,” while 55% strongly disagreed.
Currently anywhere from 3 million to 7 million Muslims live in America.
