Pro-life group, the Center for Medical Progress, has released the fifth video in its ongoing undercover series that allegedly show a Planned Parenthood official discussing the procurement and cost of “intact” fetuses and altering abortion procedures to meet specific needs.
The latest footage, which was captured on April 9, 2015, features Melissa Farrell, director of research for Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast in Houston, Texas, touting the branch’s past record regarding fetal tissue sales, including its ability to deliver fully intact fetuses.
She tells undercover activists she can change abortion procedures to ensure they receive intact fetuses.
When researchers need a specific organ from an aborted fetus, she said, “We bake that into our contract, and our protocol, that we follow this, so we deviate from our standard in order to do that.”
“Could you adjust the procedure if you knew, ‘Okay, they need a high volume of this’?” one of the undercover activists asks.
“Yeah, I think we can,” she responds while nodding. Federal law requires that “no alteration of the timing, method, or procedures used to terminate the pregnancy was made solely for the purposes of obtaining the tissue.”
Farrell did mention in the clip that input would be required from the doctors who perform the abortions.
She also proclaims that her organization has been “doing research for many, many years.”
At one point, the buyers speak with her about “financial gain” over a meal, and at another point they are seen with medical staff observing fetal remains in a pathology lab to demonstrate the “quality” of fetal parts freshly available.
A lab worker produces the remains of a 20-week-old twin from a freezer, where the buyer presumably uses a tweezer to hold up a fetal arm and leg as well as intestines and lungs, noting that the organs often come out very well.
At the end, Farrell can even be heard admitting that many Planned Parenthood affiliates don’t take part in fetal tissue donation, because they believe it could be illegal. “Really?” asks a surprised technician.
This follows a fourth video that featured Dr. Savita Ginde, vice-president and medical director of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, allegedly discussing payment per organ that is extracted from aborted fetuses.
Planned Parenthood has pushed back strongly on four other videos released in the past few weeks, noting that the recordings are heavily edited and maintaining that the group does not profit off the transfer of aborted fetal parts and tissue to researchers but are “simply reimbursed for what it costs” to preserve the parts and transfer them.
