On Saturday, the couple revealed that they discovered they had a miscarriage.
“We were so happy… It just hit us like a bomb,” Nia said in the video, explaining that they had been so excited at their pregnancy news and then were devastated by the miscarriage.
“We’re so hurt but we’re so thankful that God used us like this,” Sam chimed in later.
“I agree with Sam, I’m so grateful, but I just feel so, like, annoyed with myself that I didn’t take a second test sooner, because I felt like I was pregnant sooner than this and I just kept waiting and waiting because I always think I’m pregnant and I didn’t want to be that way this time,” Nia said. “I could have bonded with her longer.
“I’ve never experienced what Sam and I went through last night,” Nia said. “We really, for the first time in our marriage and our relationship, grieved together.”
Sam added, “Also, through this tragedy, we come closer as a family. Nia and I mourning together like this has made us stronger and it’s made me appreciate my children more.”
Nia interjected, saying, “Me, too.”
Women often come up with clever ways to reveal to their partners they’re pregnant, hoping to catch them off guard and evoke a shocked and hopefully joyful reaction.
This time it was Sam, a man who runs a video blog on Youtube with his wife Nia, who wanted the pleasure of doing the surprising.
Sam calls the video, “the first time ever daddy announces the pregnancy to mommy!”
Nia had an inkling she could be expecting.
“Last night at 1:30 a.m. while I was at work she randomly texts me that she’s two weeks late,” Sam said.
Going on to say that his wife has “the bladder the size of a golfball,” Sam said Nia uses the restroom a few times at night and doesn’t flush for fear of waking their youngest child.
He had the idea of using a urine sample she left in the toilet in a pregnancy test to see if he could find out first then surprise her with the good news he suspected.
“This time around, I’m going to be doing the announcement, at least I hope. I hope so bad that she’s pregnant,” he said.
Sam got a dropper of fluid from the toilet, dripped it on the pregnancy test and his gut feeling on proved correct: The test came back positive.
In the video, Sam surprises Nia and their two little children with the good news and the positive test, capturing all of their adorable reactions on camera.
To be extra safe the test wasn’t incorrect due to water dilution from the toilet, Nia takes a second test at the end of the video and finds out she is indeed pregnant.
The couple were high school sweethearts and live in Texas with two kids and a third on the way. They regularly post videos about their family’s daily lives on their vlogging channel on Youtube.
