Harris County Deputy Constable Tommi Jones Kelley was fueling up her patrol car when she noticed a teenager standing behind her.
What he did next prompted her to share her experience in a now-viral Facebook post.
The teenager, Mckinley Zoellner, asked her, “Ma’am, do you mind if I stand here behind you while you get your gas?”
She immediately responded, “And why?” to which he replied, “To make sure you stay safe!”
Zoellner stood there the entire time to keep watch and after she finished pumping gas, he walked away and got into the passenger side of a car.
Kelley followed him to his vehicle to talk with the driver, who was the Zoellner’s mom. The officer told the mother that her son is amazing and she responded that he wanted to make sure no one hurt her.
The touching gesture comes in the wake of Kelley’s fellow officer Darren Goforth being tragically gunned down while he was pumping gas.
“With all the terror going on nationwide, this reassured me there are still some pretty awesome individuals out there!” Kelley wrote.
