Documents obtained by Judicial Watch reveal that the Obama administration gave over 1,500 terrorists asylum in the United States in 2014.
The government watchdog reports that the administration brought 1,519 foreigners involved in terrorism into the U.S. last year because the crimes were committed ‘while under duress’ — which means the terrorists were ‘coerced’ or ‘pressured’ into committing crimes.
Before the Obama administration tweaked a federal law last year, these foreigners would have been banned from the country for supporting terrorist causes. But under the changes, the Secretary of Homeland Security has “discretionary authority” to waive certain grounds of inadmissibility relating to terrorism.
More than half of those rewarded residency, most of which whom were linked to the refugee crisis, provided material support to terrorist organizations, according to the DHS and the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service.
“The others received military-type training from a terrorist organization, voluntarily provided medical care to members of a terrorist group and solicited funds or individuals for membership in a terrorist organization,” Judicial Watch explains.
But reviewing each of the cases led Obama’s DHS Secretary, Jeh Johnson, to determine that the recently admitted terrorists only participated in these activities ‘while under duress,’ which made admittance into the U.S. acceptable under the Obama administration’s standards.
The policy of admitting known terrorists began last year after the Obama administration altered legislation, the Immigration and Nationality Act, which was originally designed to keep anyone who provided material support to terrorists from stepping on U.S. soil.
The federal law rightfully had a zero tolerance for any kind of involvement with terrorist elements, but a joint effort by DHS and the State Department created an ‘Exercise of Authority’ that allows ‘an alien who provided limited material support’ to a terrorist organization to stay in the U.S. the corrupt American government believes they pose no threat.
Judicial Watch believes the administration has a soft spot for terrorists, as a U.S. senator uncovered in DHS emails last year that the Obama administration’s has a secret terrorist “hands off” list. The list shows suspected Muslim Brotherhood members, who have close ties with terrorist organizations Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, were allowed to openly travel within the U.S.
